Problems for cyclists - what is the solution?

As the pavements have begun to be widened on Norwood Road we have had reports from cyclists who have said that in one particular place, near the junction with Elmcourt Road, they felt as if they were coming into conflict with those who were driving. Here both the pavement and parking bays have been pushed out further into the carriageway -meaning that cars can come close to cyclists when overtaking.
We want these designs to work in practice for walkers and cyclists and make everyone safer on our high street. So after listening to your feedback we have decided to make a change to the pavement layout here. However, we wanted to check with cyclists (and anyone else who would like to input), to make sure you are happy with the changes we are proposing. So we have organised a session for you to give us your feedback:
Where: Bon Velo bike shop, 495 Norwood Rd, West Norwood, London SE27 9DJ
When: Wednesday 21st June from 6pm to 7pm (you don’t need to attend for the whole hour, just drop by when you are free)
What: Council staff will be on hand to talk you through the plans, walk up to the road and discuss our proposed solution
Do come along if you have any questions about cycling and the StreetWorks project more broadly too. We will try to answer any questions you have, or address any concerns.
See you there.
