Working with Elmgreen students
Elmgreen School have joined StreetWorks as a key partner to deliver improvements to Tulse Hill.
Students will lead on the development of a section of the scheme, designing and delivering improvements to the alleyway between Norwood Road and Tulse Hill station. Today we launched the project with a presentation in assembly, and students will complete appplications forms this week to take part. Over the next six months, students will –
Form a steering group to manage the project
Take part in project management and consultation skills training
Develop a project timeline and budget
Plan and host consultation workshops for other students at the school
Present to the StreetWorks steering group and senior Transport for London officers
The final design, chosen by students, will be delivered as part of the overall project and students will oversee the construction. There will also be opportunities for work experience and participation in other elements of the project over the next 5 years. This is a really innovative approach to delivering local infrastructure projects - devolving decision making power and budget directly to the young people who live and study locally and investing in developing their skills and confidence. We are really excited to be working with such a proactive school like Elmgreen and hope that our experience can be used in building partnerships with other schools in projects like this and empowering students to become local leaders.
